“We were a year in, but still struggling to get people through the door—being tucked away in the city made us easy to miss.”
That was the starting point when Goldfinch came to Hosper in mid-2024. Although the restaurant had strong fundamentals—an intimate dining room, a thoughtful menu, and a central Christchurch location—walk-in traffic was low, and brand visibility wasn’t matching the quality of the experience. Like many young venues, they were relying heavily on footfall, and without strong digital infrastructure, growth had plateaued.
Hosper was brought on to reimagine the way Goldfinch reached its audience. We led a multi-channel strategy designed to drive traffic, build awareness, and convert online visibility into real-world foot traffic. At the core was a full website redesign, built to reflect the venue’s brand while also improving SEO performance and mobile responsiveness. The new site prioritized discovery—so potential diners could easily find, explore, and book from any device.
To amplify reach, we activated a performance-driven digital marketing strategy. Organic and paid social campaigns focused on shareable, locally resonant content—featuring seasonal menus, chef highlights, and the kind of atmosphere you can’t fake. On the email front, we introduced a cadence of updates and exclusive offers to engage both first-time guests and returning regulars. Paid ads were geo-targeted to nearby suburbs and the Christchurch CBD, ensuring visibility in the moments people were looking to dine out.
The result was a steady climb in both foot traffic and digital engagement. Bookings increased, email open rates stayed consistently strong, and—most importantly—the team at Goldfinch started seeing more walk-ins week after week. A venue that was once hidden began to feel like a local fixture.
Today, our partnership continues as we evolve the brand’s voice, test new campaign formats, and deepen its connection with Christchurch diners. For Goldfinch, it wasn’t just about better marketing—it was about being seen.
